About the Yoga

Bikram's Yoga is a form of Hatha yoga. It is a beginner's therapeutic series suitable for all ages and fitness levels (only children over 16 years old can practice. All 16-18 year old children must have signed approval from a parent or guardian). It is a challenging 90-minute class comprising of twenty-six postures and two breathing exercises.

The Bikram’s series encompasses all three aspects of fitness: Endurance, Strength and Flexibility. Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments, and joints needed for the next posture. The Bikram method also stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, moving fresh oxygenated blood to the entire body – It is a masterful system which promotes health and vitality restoring all your systems to healthy working order.

Bikram Yoga is HOT

Bikram Yoga is practiced in a heated room to 40 degrees Celsius. The heat has three primary benefits:

  • it assists to warm the body to allow for deeper stretching without injury;
  • it facilitates an excellent cardiovascular workout;
  • and it assists to detoxify the body through perspiration.

The room is heated intentionally to work you from head to toe, systematically stimulating every aspect of your being. Bikram Yoga reduces stress, improves sleep, develops muscle tone as well as building strength and stamina. It helps weight reduction, improves circulation and boosts the metabolism. It strengthens the immune system, improves breathing and is excellent for back pain, sports injuries and bad posture. The sweat will help purify your systems and eliminate toxins from your body while the meditative practice of stillness will calm and centre you, bringing together body and mind.

Bikram Yoga is for Everyone

Yoga is the only exercise in the world that can be performed at any age. The Bikram Yoga sequence is suitable for ALL ages and ALL levels of ability. Bikram says it’s never too late, it’s never to bad and you’re never to old or sick to start from scratch once again. The teachers use dialogue with precise instructions to allow students to move into the postures correctly and according to their own level of ability.
